9. Navigating SSAs and Chemotherapy • Dr. Guillaume Pegna • Oregon Health & Science University

In this session from the Neuroendocrine Cancer Foundation’s 2026 Virtual Annual Patient Conference, Dr. Will Pegna, neuroendocrine tumor medical oncologist at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, presents “Navigating Somatostatin Analogs and Chemotherapy for Neuroendocrine Tumors.” Dr. Pegna explains how somatostatin analogs and chemotherapy fit into the neuroendocrine tumor treatment journey. He discusses the role of octreotide and lanreotide in helping control tumor growth and hormone-related symptoms, including carcinoid syndrome, as well as when treatment may need to move beyond somatostatin analogs. This presentation also covers chemotherapy options for neuroendocrine tumors, including CAPTEM, streptozocin-based therapy, and platinum-based regimens for more aggressive disease. Dr. Pegna explains how treatment decisions are individualized based on tumor behavior, symptoms, side effects, quality of life, patient goals, and clinical trial opportunities.
